TERMINAL 1
Began operating in 1968 and was formally opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in May 1969. Today 13 airlines operate from Terminal 1, carrying 25 million passengers. All Heathrow's domestic flights operate from Terminal 1, as well as European and long-haul destinations.

TERMINAL 2
was Heathrow's first terminal. Opened in 1955, it was originally named the Europa Building. Carrying over 8.5 million passengers, 28 airlines operate from this terminal.

TERMINAL 3
opened in 1961. Today, it is used by 41 airlines and approximately 15.5 million passengers.

TERMINAL 4
Opened in 1986, Terminal 4 has 6 airlines and handles approximately 14.2 million passengers each year.

FACILITIES
The Business Centre. The Business Centre, operated by Travalex, is located in the Queens Building between Terminals 1 and 2. Facilities include: showers

20 meeting rooms available, meeting refreshments, conference suite seating up to 60 people theatre style

Business support facilities including access to two computer workstations, faxing, photocopying, internet, email, audio and video conferencing

Individual membership package provides free access to the centre's business lounge, discounts for meeting room hire, complimentary use of the shower facilities and reductions off a selection of presentational equipment.

INFORMATION DESKS
Airport information is available from information desks in each terminal. Operated by BAA staff the information desk in Terminal 4, located in the arrivals concourse, is open between 0530 - 2230 daily.

HELP POINTS
Passenger help points are located at key locations around the airport. Situated on terminal forecourts, in car parks and baggage reclaim halls they incorporate a 'You Are Here' map. Each help point is fitted with a special telephone, which can be used to summon a porter.

Special needs travellers, disabled passengers, elderly and parents travelling alone with young children and baggage are welcome to use the help points to call for free assistance from the Skycap porters. Tips are not accepted.

TRAVEL AND TOURIST INFORMATION
A London Tourist Board information centre in the Underground station, Terminals 1, 2 and 3, will assist passengers with enquiries. London Transport and British Rail have travel information points in Terminals 1, 2 and 4.

Bus and coach sales/information desks are located in all four terminals. Leaflets containing advice on public transport and other tourist information are widely available at information points throughout the terminals.

The Hotel and Traveller centre in Terminal 3 arrivals area offers visitor information as well as British Rail tickets, London Underground tickets and hotel accommodation

Local buses provide a free transfer service for passengers from Terminal 4 to the central terminal area. For further information, please contact the information desk located in the arrivals area.

POSTAL SERVICES
Stamps can usually be purchased in each terminal at branches of W H Smith or Booksplus shops. Post boxes are available after passport control in all four terminals.

Terminal 1
Post boxes are situated on departures concourse and coin operated stamp machines only.

Terminal 2
There is a Post Office located in Terminal 2 which is open at the following times :
0830 to 1730 Monday to Saturday
0900 to 1300 Sundays and Bank Holidays.

Terminal 3
Post boxes and coin operated stamp machines only.

Terminal 4
There is a post office on the departure check-in level. It is open from:
0900 to 1730 Monday to Saturday
0900 to 1300 Sundays and Bank Holidays.

TELEPHONES, FAX AND INTERNET CONNECTIONS
Public telephones are easily accessible in the main areas of each passenger terminal. Telephones for the use of passengers in wheelchairs and for the hard of hearing with text keyboards are available in each terminal. Also available are wall-mounted pay fax machines, which take credit cards.

Visit one of the Heathrow internet cafes and surf the net while you wait for your flight at the following locations:

  • Internet Exchange at Terminal 3, arrivals
  • Webpoint at Terminal 4, catering mezzanine level before security
  • Webpoint at Terminal 4, after security

SHOWERS
Showers are available in the following locations throughout the airport:

Terminal 1: Before security, Terminal 3: Departure lounge, Terminal 4: Available in the toilet areas on the Arrivals level, before security and further facilities are available after security control

Additional shower facilities are available in the Flight Connections Centre.

ST GEORGES CHAPEL
The airport chapel is located beside the control tower and opposite Terminal 2 car park. It is reached by a flight of stairs and is open from early morning to late at night for private prayer and peace and quiet. For times of services, please call the office on + 44 (0)20 8745 4261, or ask for details at the information desk in the terminals.

A prayer room for all faiths can be found at ground level as an additional worship facility.

CHEMISTS
Boots the Chemist is located before and after security in each terminal. Only the chemist in Terminal 1 dispenses prescriptions. Please contact them in advance to check your medication is available.

INFORMATION AND HELP DESKS:
Information desks are available in each of the Terminals.

AIRPORT FACILITIES:
These include bureaux de change, ATMs, airport information, hotel reservation and travel information desks, car hire, post offices in Terminals 2 and 4, fax machines, a prescription pharmacy in Terminal 1, shops, duty-free outlets, restaurants, cafés and bars, and a London Tourist Board centre in the underground station.

CONFERENCE AND BUSINESS FACILITIES:
Business facilities: wall-mounted credit-card-paid fax machines are available throughout the airport. The business centre in the Queen's Building (tel: 020 8759 2434) offers 20 meeting rooms, a conference suite, online computers, faxes, photocopiers, videoconferencing and audiovisual equipment.
